Communication, Mutual Respect, and Discipline

Pat Puckett has spent more than 30 years refining his relationship with horses. As a cowboy and rancher, horses have been more than just a means of transportation. They have been partners.

Over the course of his lifetime, Pat has had the opportunity to ride with some of the best reinsmen and cowboys in the West. Early on, he developed a passion for the Californio Bridle Horse, the highest compliment you can pay a horse. The classical origins of this heritage have given Pat a unique viewpoint and the ability to communicate effectively with horses and riders of all disciplines.

Pat has a no-nonsense style of teaching. He believes much can be learned by observation and putting what has been observed into practice. This quote by Albert Einstein pretty much sums it up:

"I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn."

When you become one of Pat's students, you can be assured that he will try his best to teach you everything he knows. No holding back and no stretching things out for the almighty dollar. His lessons and workshops have been described as "getting a drink from a fire hose!" So, come prepared to get more done than you thought possible. It is his hope that everybody who comes to him for help goes home with a sense that their time and money have been well spent.

To practise equestrian art is to establish a conversation on a high level with the horse; a dialogue of courtesy and finesse. The rider obtains the collaboration of the horse by the slightest hint of a demand, and the spectator can then see the sublime beauty of this communion. He will be touched by the grace and the form, and captivated as if he were hearing the most grandiose music.
